There will be no increase in fuel prices, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has assured the public while urging Fijians not to panic-buy fuel.

Speaking after the Cabinet meeting yesterday, Mr Rabuka said the Government had been assured about the country’s current fuel reserves and incoming shipments.

“There should be no price hike,” he said.

Mr Rabuka stressed that the current situation did not warrant panic buying.

“There’s no need for any price hike because there is no need to panic yet.”

He said the Government had received updates on the fuel supply currently in the country as well as the schedule for the next shipments.

“We have been assured of the stock or supply we have, and when the next stocks will arrive.”

He reiterated that Fiji had sufficient reserves available.

“We have our normal stock for three months in-country already landed.”

Mr Rabuka added that contingency plans were also in place should the situation change.

“Yes, there are stages, and that will be discussed in the stages as the indications of our approach in their next state comes up.”

He said Cabinet had also received a briefing from representatives of the fuel industry during the meeting.

“We have had a presentation from the fuel industry also this morning.”
