About 20 cases of child abduction were reported in the North over the last three years.
Figures released by the Fiji Police Force revealed children were being taken with the intent to have carnal knowledge.
The report noted an increase in cases of abduction of a person under 18 with intent to have carnal knowledge rose from 10 cases in the years 2023 and 2024.
The cases increased to 13 in 2025 highlighting ongoing risks to children.
The report highlighted those teenage girls between the ages of 13 and 17 remained the most vulnerable victims of crime in the Northern Division.
The data showed this age group recorded the highest number of reported cases from 2023 to 2025.
In 2025 alone, there were 74 female victims in this age group, an increase from 61 cases recorded in 2024.
Furthermore, the number of male victims also increased to 41 cases in 2025.
The police report said the trend showed that teenage girls were disproportionately affected.
“The distribution of victims by age and gender indicates that female children are the most affected,” the report said.
Overall, female victims accounted for 66 per cent of all reported victims between 2023 and 2025.
“This highlights the vulnerability of young girls and the need for stronger protection and awareness.
“Overall, female children are disproportionately affected, accounting for 318 victims.
“Female victims consistently outnumbered male victims in every age group.
“Although the number of victims aged five years and below remains relatively low, the figures fluctuated.
“Cases dropped significantly in 2024 to six victims but doubled to 12 in 2025.”
The data also revealed that iTaukei children recorded the highest number of victims each year, with 114 cases in 2023, 118 in 2024 and 116 in 2025.
Children of Fijian-Indian descent recorded 45 cases in 2023, dropping to 21 in 2024 before rising to 36 in 2025, while children of other ethnic backgrounds recorded the lowest numbers.
