The Government says Fiji has enough fuel supplies to meet the country’s energy needs for the next few months and is urging the public not to engage in panic buying at service stations.

In a statement issued today, the Government said it is closely monitoring developments arising from the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.

“Fuel supply in the country is sufficient to meet the energy needs for the next few months and there is no need to indulge in panic buying at the service station,” the statement said.

Authorities said the Government has also been meeting with local fuel suppliers, who have already secured adequate supply.

“The Government is closely monitoring the developments emanating from the US-Israel conflict with Iran, and meeting with local suppliers who have already secured fuel supply,” the statement said.

Cabinet is expected to meet tomorrow to discuss longer-term contingency plans should the conflict continue.

“Furthermore, Cabinet will meet tomorrow to firm up a plan of action for the long term, if there is no resolution to the conflict in the near future,” the statement said.

The Government has also advised the public to rely only on verified sources of information as speculation continues to circulate regarding fuel availability.

It added that the Government will continue to provide updates as necessary.
