The Government of India has announced temporary immigration relief measures for foreign nationals, including citizens from Fiji, affected by travel disruptions linked to the escalating conflict in the Gulf region.
In a public notice issued by the High Commission of India in Suva, authorities said the ongoing military escalation in the Gulf has disrupted international travel and created uncertainty in the movement of civilians.
The notice stated that the closure of airspace by several Gulf countries has caused flight disruptions, leaving many foreign nationals unable to depart India before their visas expire.
“As a goodwill and humanitarian gesture,” the Government of India has decided to introduce several temporary measures to assist affected travellers.
Under the new arrangements, all types of visas and e-visas that are due to expire soon will be extended for one month on a free-of-charge basis. The extensions will be granted by the relevant Foreigners Regional Registration Offices on a case-by-case basis.
India has also waived penalties for any visa overstay by affected foreign nationals after February 28, 2026 — the date cited as the beginning of the Israel-Iran conflict that triggered the travel disruptions.
In addition, exit permits for affected foreign nationals will be issued free of charge.
Authorities also confirmed that individuals who are unable to apply for visa extensions or exit permits due to the ongoing disruptions will not be treated as being in violation of India’s immigration laws.
Meanwhile, foreign nationals arriving in India due to flight diversions will be granted a Temporary Landing Permit on a complimentary basis.
The High Commission said the measures are intended to assist foreign travellers stranded because of the ongoing regional instability and airspace restrictions affecting international flights.
The notice was issued in Suva on March 14.
