Two high-profile cases were called before Justice Daniel Goundar in the High Court in Suva today.
Two men — 42-year-old Keni Salawai and 20-year-old Jope Seniloli — who are charged with one count of murder appeared for the first time in the High Court.
The two men, along with another person, are alleged to have aided and abetted in causing injuries to Constable Peniasi Racagi, which resulted in his death sometime between February 21 and 22, 2026.
Mr Salawai’s lawyer, Tobia Ravuniwa, told the court he will be asking the prosecution to disclose CCTV footage from Shop & Save in Lami between 3am and 7am on the day of the incident to assist with his client’s alibi defence.
The matter will be called again on March 27.
In a separate case, TikToker Lui Bale Vuiberata, 32, apologised in court for making derogatory and harmful comments on TikTok about Minister for Information Lynda Tabuya.
His lawyer, Eroni Navuda, asked the court to consider his client’s total remand time of 46 days as time already served.
He also requested that if the court decides to impose a sentence, it should be suspended. Navuda said that to demonstrate genuine remorse, his client is willing to pay a fine of between $1000 and $2000.
The State, however, is seeking a deterrent sentence.
The sentence will be delivered on March 17.
