EXPECT an increased level of security at the Tara’s Supermarket Nausori 7s tournament when it unfolds at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.

That’s the word from its tournament director Malakai Yamaivava, in light of a brawl that took place there during a provincial rugby union’s 10s tournament on Saturday, February 28.

Yamaivava said proper security management measures have been guaranteed, in light of similar incidents noted in the Nausori tourney over the years.

“We have guaranteed the security; we have experienced it in the last two years where we slackened a little bit and teams take advantage of that,” Yamaivava said on behalf of the Nausori Rugby Club yesterday.

“We are taking extra precautions.”

He added teams breaching the rules and regulations in place could face disciplinary action or disqualification from the tournament.

“And this is clearly entailed in our tournament rules and they (teams) have to sign our indemnity agreement which binds them with us (Nausori Rugby Club) for running the tournament, so they do not breach the tournament (rules).”

He mentioned talks were underway with police in Nausori and the divisional police commander – eastern in ensuring security remained a priority.

“They (police) have been very helpful and we believe that this year we will make sure that security is our priority and this will be discussed during the managers’ briefing that coaches and managers have the responsibility to look after their players when the match is going on and their supporters,” he said.

The Nausori 7s will be held from March 20-21.
