A CAREER in law can be as dangerous as walking through a battlefield, newly-admitted legal practitioners were told yesterday.

Chief Justice Salesi Temo used the striking comparison while addressing the young lawyers, warning them that the profession requires caution, discipline, and strong ethical values.

Her likened the profession to that of a soldier.

“You’re walking through a battlefield and there’s mines all over -you’ve got to be careful how you step forward,” he said.

Justice Temo said wrong decisions in the profession could have serious consequences.

“Sometimes, wrong moves, you’re blown up, bombed.”

He told the newly admitted practitioners that the legal profession is a privileged one but requires responsibility and courage.

Justice Temo also reminded the lawyers that the certificate they received only opens the door to real legal practice.

“And the door that you’re about to enter is the legal, factual realities of the practice of law, which you do not learn in law school.”

He urged them to remain disciplined and committed as they begin their professional journeys.
