A new library equipped with educational resources valued at more than $8000 was opened at Cautata District School in Tailevu, alongside the launch of the official website for the Library Services of Fiji.

The facility was officially opened by the Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, during a ceremony attended by education officials, community leaders, teachers, parents and students.

The new library, supported by the Library Services of Fiji, includes books, learning materials, shelves, tables, chairs, educational charts, toys and digital devices aimed at supporting teaching and learning while encouraging students to strengthen their reading and research skills.

Speaking at the event, Mr Radrodro highlighted the important role libraries play in strengthening education and expanding learning opportunities for students.

He noted that libraries help nurture curiosity, creativity and a lifelong interest in learning by providing students with access to knowledge and information that supports their academic development.

He also launched the new website of the Library Services of Fiji, which will provide access to a wide range of digital resources, including books, journals, newspapers and online learning materials available in iTaukei, Hindi, Fiji Hindi, Rotuman and English.

Currently, 633 of Fiji’s 745 primary schools and 159 of the country’s 181 secondary schools have functioning libraries. The ministry says it remains committed to expanding both physical and digital library services to strengthen reading and learning across Fiji.
