NANUKU Island Resort was recognised for their exceptional work in the community at the 2025 ANZ Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards on February 28.

The Pacific Habour based resort took home the 2025 Corporate Social Responsibility award and the 2025 Food Tourism trophy’s marking an almost five-year journey to be among the best of Fiji’s tourism industry.

Nanuku Island Resort manager Charlotte Steele said the CSR award took years in the making.

“We have been either second or third over the past four years and this year to finally win gold in the categories that we have taken is actually quite an excitement and we want to dedicate this to our team back home in Pacific Harbour because without them we would not have been able to achieve this award,” she said.

“It has been a lot of early mornings and late nights and a lot of crying but it has finally paid off, and we are so excited to be taking this back home to our team.”

She said their community work has had a far-reaching impact on locals and nearby villages.

“What we do with the communities around us are things like the medical team that comes in biannually that we take across to six communities that we help every year and it is basic screenings and making sure that they are doing the right thing when it comes to their health.

“We have had a lot of good stories come out this program.

“People who have had high blood pressure, high level sugar levels have been able to change their lifestyles and monitor their food intake and their overall health because of these screenings. They are doing much better than they were before.

“The other thing that we do is we work with schools in the area.

“There is a school near Nanuku Island Resort that has a vocational school, and we take students from there and we offer attachment opportunities for them, and we even retain some of them as our staff. It is exciting to know that all of that has paid off, and we will continue these programs.”

The resort also took home the Food Tourism Award which Executive Chef Mohammed Shamim Ali says was a team effort to achieve.

“It comes down to our team and our dedication to producing authentic Fijian dishes focusing on our local produce,” said Mr Ali.

“We would not have achieved this without their commitment to innovation and maintaining a standard that is world class.”
