Unsettled weather to persist until tomorrow

A heavy rain warning remains in force for the entire Fiji Group, with authorities urging the public to remain alert as unsettled weather persists.

The Fiji Meteorological Service says a flash flood warning is also in effect for the whole of Viti Levu, while a flash flood alert remains in force for Vanua Levu.

In addition, a flood warning continues for low-lying and flood-prone areas adjacent to and downstream of the Nakauvadra River (Rakiraki Town), Naseyani at the Yaqara River, the Tavua River, and the Ba River flood plains.

A flood alert also remains in force for low-lying areas near and downstream of the Nadi, Nawaka and Tuva rivers in Nadroga.

Weather officials say an active trough of low pressure lies over the Fiji Group, with associated cloud, showers and rain expected to continue affecting the country until Wednesday.

There will be occasional to periods of rain are expected across most places, heavy at times with a few thunderstorms.

Rain is forecast to gradually ease from later today, although localised heavy falls may still trigger flooding in vulnerable areas.

The public is urged to continue following official weather warnings and advisories, avoid flooded roads and river crossings, and take necessary precautions as conditions gradually improve.
