EFL announces planned power outages in Western Division for tonight

Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) has advised customers that urgent repair works will be carried out at the 132kV Nadarivatu Switching Station after a hot-spot fault was detected.

EFL Chief Executive Officer Fatiaki Gibson said repair teams were able to reach the Nadarivatu site at around 1pm today, after floodwaters subsided.

To allow the repairs to proceed safely, EFL will temporarily switch off the 132kV transmission line between the Nadarivatu Switching Station and the Vuda Zone Substation.

This means the Western Division will not receive electricity from the Monasavu and Nadarivatu Hydroelectric Schemes during the repair period.

Repair works are scheduled to commence from 9pm tonight and continue until 6am Tuesday, with the operation expected to take approximately nine hours, subject to favourable weather conditions.

During this period, electricity supply in the Western Division of Viti Levu will be supported by EFL’s generators in Vuda, Nadi, Qeleloa, Sigatoka, Rakiraki, Rarawai, Pineapple Corner and Naikabula, as well as the Nabou and Butoni renewable power stations.

EFL warned that this generation capacity will not be sufficient to meet full demand, and as a result, temporary power outages will occur in some areas while repairs are underway.
