The discovery of a dead body in Wainibuku River in Nausori yesterday has left the quiet community shaken.
Naibiribiri resident Luisa Wati said the find near her home came as a shock.
“We’ve been living here since 1992, and this is the first time we have come across something like this,” she said.
Ms Wati said she was unaware a body was lying in the river close to her house until police officers arrived at the scene.
“We didn’t know about the body, even though it was close to our house. We didn’t smell anything too.
“We only came to know the body was there when we saw policemen coming down the driveway to retrieve the body.”
She added the area was flooded recently following a heavy downpour last Thursday.
Police investigations into the discovery are ongoing.
