A 54-year-old Lautoka man remains in hospital after a violent attack at his Saweni home this week — an ordeal his family says has left them living in fear.
Rosan Ali was allegedly seized by a group of men who arrived in a twin cab and another vehicle. During the chaos, his daughter, Imrana Simran Ali, managed a desperate escape — jumping from a moving car in what she believes was an attempted kidnapping.
Speaking to this newspaper, the victim’s elder brother, Yusuf Ali, said the group later took Mr Ali toward Saweni Beach.
“There were more than five people involved,” he said.
Mr Ali said the family did not know why he was targeted. He also claimed they had received death threats prior to the attack.
Imrana said a family friend — now believed to be among the suspects — had messaged her earlier on Wednesday inviting her out for a drink.
“I refused the offer, and I do not know why they are after me,” she said.
“Everything happened suddenly. After escaping from the car, I went to my friend’s place nearby and we could see them hitting my father.
“I then called my uncle to check on my dad but by the time his son arrived there, they had taken my father in the twin cab.”
A nearby resident alerted police. A pursuit by the victim’s nephew led officers to intercept the vehicle near the Saweni Mosque, where three suspects were apprehended.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that three people had been arrested and investigations were continuing.
Rosan Ali remains hospitalised as police work to determine the motive behind the violent attack.
