A 29-year-old schoolteacher is pleading for public assistance after his mother went missing from a care home in Suva last week.

Mohammed Siraz, a teacher at Yasawa High School, said his 49-year-old mother, Zareena Bibi, has been missing from the St Vincent Home in Toorak since Thursday last week.

“My mother is a St Giles patient and she was staying in the St Vincent Home in Toorak, Suva,” Mr Siraz said.

“Last Thursday, I received a call around 8am that my mother was missing.

“We waited for 24 hours, and after that informed the police in Toorak about her being missing.

“There was no feedback, so I decided to come to the mainland on Saturday.

“Upon inquiring I found out that there was no official report lodged at the Toorak Police Post, so I lodged an official report at Totogo Police Station on Sunday.”

He said that during his enquiries, he found out that his mother was last seen in the Valelevu area on Monday.

“She was wearing a green salwar kameez, and she is 49 years old.

“I am pleading with the public to help me in finding my sick mother.

“If anyone has any information about my mother, please contact 9509057 or nearest police station.”

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that a missing persons report had been lodged at the Totogo Police Station in Suva.
