EXTRA Bula FC’s commanding performance in the first half, combined with critical execution in key moments, proved decisive as they secured a hard-earned 2-1 victory over PNG Hekari FC in Round 3 of the OFC Pro League.

From the kick-off, Bula FC imposed themselves on the match, displaying sharpness and control that set the tone early on.

Their breakthrough came in the 11th minute when Filipe Baravilala exploited space down the right flank, delivering a precise cross that Fergus Gillion cleverly assisted forward for Thomas Dunn to finish from close range.

Despite a thorough VAR review for offside, the goal stood, rewarding the team’s early dominance.

Building on this momentum, the Stephane Auvray coached side doubled their lead in the 35th minute with a textbook counterattack.

After defending a PNG Hekari free kick, the ball quickly transitioned to Kaile Auvray, who showcased both pace and composure to blaze past his defender and fire a low, accurate shot into the near post, leaving goalkeeper Dave Tomare rooted.

While PNG Hekari responded just before halftime through Ati Kepo’s well-timed strike, Bula’s strong first-half foundation meant they entered the break with a valuable lead.

The second half saw PNG Hekari improve their possession and pressure, but side’s defence, despite injury disruptions, remained resolute, ultimately closing out the match.

Head coach Auvray acknowledged the importance of the team’s first-half display and pinpointed areas for growth.

“I liked the first 45 minutes. We should have scored one more to make the game easier for us. Second half, I didn’t like it, so we still have work to do. I’m very happy for the players because they’ve been working hard for many games. But tomorrow, we get back to work,” he said.

Auvray also emphasized the club’s focus on nurturing young talent as part of their long-term strategy.

“We had Ibraheem playing at left winger today, he is 18. It’s important to integrate our young players, we have a long-term project. Second half, we also had Ayman playing left central back, he is 20. Difficult start but then he got more comfortable, I’m happy for them.”

With his victory Bula FC continues to build momentum in the competition aiming to refine their performance and maintain their wining form.

Bula FC will take on Solomon Kings FC tomorrow in their third match of round three of the OFC Pro League.
