MEMBERS of the five landowning units in Tavua are excited to begin a new chapter that has the potential to bring economic stability for their people.
Last week they met in Tavualevu Village for an official handover of a 20-year development lease from the iTaukei Lands Trust Board, marking a significant step towards their vision to establish a Vatia City.
Project manager Matai Raisowalu said the project was a first, where a landowner would be entitled to own the lease and the business on it through what is currently proposed to be a 20-year project.
“The lease issued today is an integrated development lease for integrated tourism and covers both tourism leases and residential leases,” he said.
“And approximately there will be 81 tourism leases of about 10 acres per lot, with residential leases over 1000.”
The five land owning units are Tilivalevu, mataqali Naitokotoko, mataqali Tilavasewa, mataqali Nadawa and mataqali Tikinasau.
