The Suva Magistrate’s Court has ruled that former Water Authority of Fiji assistant project manager, Vilimaina Kalokalo, has a case to answer.

On Monday, Magistrate Pulekeria Low found that the prosecution had presented relevant and admissible evidence implicating Ms Kalokalo.

Ms Kalokalo had applied for a no-case-to-answer following the closure of the prosecution’s case.

It is alleged Ms Kalokalo facilitated the processing of false payments for the purpose of gain totalling $13,348.19 for crop compensation claims related to the Painapiu Sewage Project.

Ms Low ruled that, taking the prosecution’s evidence at its highest, a reasonable tribunal could convict.

Ms Kalokalo will not have to present her defence and has 28 days to appeal the ruling.

She is represented by lawyer Nemani Tuifagalele while Prosecutor Joshua Francis Prasad appeared for the State.
