Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu today confirmed that foul play is suspected in the death of Police Constable who was found dead in Lami on Sunday morning.
Speaking at a press conference, the Commissioner conveyed his sympathies to the family of the fallen officer, saying the past few days had been extremely difficult for both the force and the victim’s loved ones.
“It has been a difficult time for us all. To lose one of our men who was diligently carrying out his duty, who swore an oath and committed his life to serving members of the public, is heartbreaking,” he said.
Commissioner Tudravu said the force was mourning the tragic loss of a young officer whose promising policing career was “strategically cut short”.
He revealed that following a post-mortem examination, findings had established elements of foul play.
The Divisional Crime Officer Southern is leading the investigation team based in Lami.
Officers are currently gathering information to establish the circumstances surrounding the constable’s death, including determining the motive and piecing together a timeline of events from when he was last seen.
Investigations are continuing.
