In a move that redefines the concept of home-field advantage, the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) unveiled a groundbreaking July schedule for the inaugural Nations Championship.
The FIJI Water Flying Fijians are set to host three of rugby’s powerhouse nations; Wales, England, and Scotland, in a historic series staged entirely in the Northern Hemisphere.
While the fixtures are technically “home” games for Fiji, the Flying Fijians will be taking their world-renowned flair directly to the doorsteps of their opponents, utilising iconic stadiums across the UK as their home bases.
Fiji will face Wales in its first July fixture on the 4th at Cardiff City Stadium. Following this is the July 11 clash against England at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The third match is against Scotland at Murrayfield Stadium on July 18.
Fiji Rugby Board chairman John Sanday shared that a new chapter in the history of the Flying Fijians will be celebrated when they kick-off their match against Wales in July.
“We anticipate a packed stadium on the 4th of July when Fiji takes on Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium, a venue with a capacity of 32,500.
“The following week, history will be made as Fiji hosts England. Fiji’s home ground for this stadium is Hill Dickson Stadium.
“For our third home game on July 18, we step into one of rugby’s most iconic arenas; Murrayfield Stadium, to face Scotland in a rivalry that has tested us for more than four decades,” he said.
The FRU views these fixtures as a vital part of the team’s preparation and growth, providing invaluable experience against top-tier opposition in high-pressure environments.
