THE upgrade works at Westin Resort and Spa on Denarau are expected to be completed next month, with a soft launch planned before the resort fully opens later this year, Finance Minister Esrom Immanuel has confirmed.
“They were planning to have a soft opening in March and the full opening in June when the works have been fully completed,” Mr Immanuel said.
He added that contractual issues between the contractors, Fletcher Construction, and the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) had been resolved.
“They managed to resolve the problems there between the contractors who is Fletchers and FNPF. So hopefully by March we should have a soft opening and by June the resort is opened and operational.”
Construction work at the resort had come to a standstill late last year due to these contractual disputes. The matter was resolved in November, with assurances that all works would be completed this year, paving the way for the resort’s reopening and full operations.
The completion of the upgrade is expected to restore full services at the resort and boost Denarau’s tourism offerings as the sector continues to recover.
