A man in his 30s has become Fiji’s latest road fatality victim following a serious crash along the Queens Highway near Wainigasau.
Police say the victim was a passenger in a vehicle driven by another man in his 30s when the crash occurred on Wednesday night.
It is alleged the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to cross into the opposite lane and collide head-on with an oncoming car.
The victim was rushed to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in critical condition, where he later died on February 19.
The alleged driver remains admitted in hospital, while occupants of the other vehicle involved are also hospitalised in stable condition. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing.
Police confirm the national road death toll now stands at seven, compared to two for the same period last year.
