Negotiations between Yaqara Pastoral PTE Ltd and the National Union of Workers were successfully concluded last evening, bringing an end to the industrial action by employees.

In a statement, the Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations Agni Deo Singh said talks wrapped up at around 7.30pm, following four hours of negotiations between the parties.

The agreement was formally signed by FTUC General Secretary Felix Anthony and the Chairman of the Yaqara Pastoral PTE Ltd Board, Uraia Waibuta.

It provides for the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) payout, backdated to 2024 and 2025, as well as compensation relating to other terms and conditions of employment under the collective agreement that had not been fully complied with by the employer.

“The agreement addresses the key concerns raised by workers, including COLA payments and outstanding matters under the collective agreement,” Singh said.

He expressed appreciation to both the employer and the union for their willingness to engage constructively and reach a resolution.

“I commend Yaqara Pastoral PTE Ltd and the National Union of Workers for their commitment to dialogue and cooperation. Their constructive engagement has ensured that the strike was resolved peacefully and responsibly,” the Minister said.

The Minister added that the resolution reflects the importance of good-faith negotiations in addressing workplace disputes and safeguarding workers’ rights while maintaining business continuity.

He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to promoting fair labour practices and encouraging employers and unions to resolve disputes through dialogue and mutual respect.
