IMPROVING on their defence is high on the list of priorities for the Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s team, as the Vancouver 7s looms closer.

Head coach Osea Kolinisau says part of improving it means looking out for breaches in their defence, especially on the edges of the field.

“Just looking at our game in Perth, I think we still need to get better at our defence,” Kolinisau said.

“We improved a bit, still a lot more we can do in defence and especially when we’re working on our edges.”

He highlighted the area was a vulnerable part of their defence as teams broke through the wall of towering forwards to score tries during the Perth 7s in Australia earlier this month.

“Because they scored a lot of tries on our edges, we had men there. It’s just our processes in doing it was wrong,” he pointed out.

He added the communication between the men on the sides of their defence was where the blunder surfaced for them.

“We’re just working on that a lot and trying to polish our defence.”

“We missed a lot of tackles as well, but that’s something we want to make sure our one-on-one is solid; it will help us in our next leg.”

Meanwhile, at a training session held at Albert Park in Suva on Tuesday, Yaro Chiefs players Wame Ratuva and Tomasi Stark were part of the extended training squad.

The two players’ stellar performances in the McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s have driven Kolinisau to call them into camp to aim for spots in the national side.

The Vancouver 7s will be held from March 7-8.
