The Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations has confirmed that arrangements are underway for a meeting between striking workers of Yaqara Pastoral Company PTE Ltd and their employer, as efforts intensify to resolve the ongoing industrial dispute.
Thirty-four workers, represented by the National Union of Workers, began strike action at 8am on Monday at the company’s Yaqara premises in Tavua.
The strike follows concerns over outstanding employment entitlements, workplace safety provisions and alleged non-compliance with agreed terms and conditions.
The union secured more than 81 per cent support for the strike through a secret ballot held on February 9.
Ministry officials have met separately with both the union and company management, with both parties agreeing in principle to sit down for talks.
Details of the meeting are now being finalised.
Minister for Employment Agni Deo Singh said the Ministry will continue to monitor the situation closely and has encouraged constructive dialogue to achieve an amicable resolution and maintain industrial harmony.
