AS couples celebrate love today, Ranjni Devi faces Valentine’s Day with pain and unanswered questions.

Ten years after the charred body of Salesh Chand was found inside his burnt company vehicle in Lautoka, she says she is still waiting for answers.

Mr Chand, the former West regional manager for Vinod Patel, was discovered near the Fiji Sugar Corporation compound in June 2016.

Police classified the case as murder.

Ms Devi, 46, of Muanikoso Housing in Nasinu, said she had repeatedly sought updates but has been told investigations were continuing.

“For 10 years I have been asking for progress, and each time I’m told the investigations are still ongoing,” she said.

She also claimed her husband’s gold chain and pendant, allegedly taken as evidence at the scene, were never returned.

“I have proof that the officer removed the chain from his neck and kept it as evidence, but now I am being told they don’t have any jewellery,” she said.

Ms Devi said she had written to several authorities, including the Police Commissioner, but had not received a response.

“It has been 10 years, and they are still saying they are looking for people to interview.

“I have lost trust. In a small country like ours, how can it take this long?”

Police said they would look into the matter and respond to the queries at a later stage.
