MOANA Pasifika head coach Tana Umaga says his team is eager to get their Super Rugby Pacific season underway when they face Swire Shipping Fijian Drua at Churchill Park today.

“After a long pre-season, both teams are excited to finally play,” Umaga said.

“It’s a special occasion to start Super Rugby Pacific here in the Pacific, and to play against our Fijian brothers makes it even more meaningful.”

Umaga said the team has grown over the past year, with new players stepping up and strong leadership from captain Miracle Fai’ilagi helping to guide the squad.

Fai’ilagi said they expect a physical challenge from the Drua, particularly around the rucks, but the team is prepared.

“The humidity is tough, but we won’t use it as an excuse. We’ll stick to our work and see what we’ve got tomorrow,” he said.

The skipper added that a strong start is crucial after previous seasons’ slow openings.

“So this is a special game for us,” Fai’ilagi said.
