THE 2025 Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards (FETA) is moving toward a more inclusive future, with a focus on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and a commitment to continuous evolution. In an exclusive interview with The Fiji Times, FETA board of trustees chairperson Debra Sadranu said the organisation is mindful of exclusivity, ensuring the awards represent the entire spectrum of the industry.

Ms Sadranu stressed that the awards are not just for large-scale resorts but for the diverse range of services that make up the sector.

“We have extended the categories over the last couple of seasons. We now have 23 in total including the two trustee awards,” she said.

“We’re very mindful of exclusivity and making sure that we have not only all the hoteliers but also all of the services that are offered and experiences and, moving forward, we’re looking at including SMEs, anybody that offers inbound tourism and experience or activity or accommodation in tourism.”

Addressing her role as the first female chair, Ms Sadranu said the culture of the Secretariat is built on passion and a drive for improvement.

She said leadership in the tourism industry transcends gender, focusing instead on industry knowledge and identifying areas for expansion.

“I don’t think it matters whether we’re female or male. I think it’s about passion, knowledge of the industry and just being there to identify how we can potentially improve or expand every year.”

“Nothing should stay complacent. We should be evolving and that’s also identifying other categories and other people that are deserving.”

This evolution includes the 2025 theme, Echoes of Fiji, honouring the sound of success.

Ms Sadranu said the theme celebrates the ripple effect of the industry and how a single moment or smile resonates across lives.

It reflects the quintessential sounds of the tourism industry while creating impactful memories.

The 2025 Gala Awards Night will be hosted at the brand-new Convention Centre at Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay Resort and Spa on February 28. This marks a significant move to a new venue.

“We’re excited to bring something new to the awards this year and I think having a new venue helps add to that experience.”

Ms Sadranu said the event celebrates the incredible hospitality talent and the spirit of excellence that defines our nation.
