THE Suva Netball Association has praised the recent Stakeholders Governance Workshop facilitated by Netball Fiji, calling it a significant milestone in advancing the sport locally.

The workshop focused on adopting a new constitution aimed at improving governance, zoning, and overall development within Fiji’s netball community.

Alumeci V Sachs, President of Suva Netball, described the workshop as a breakthrough after several rounds of discussions.

“It took about four, five times for the working group to come together with Netball Fiji to agree on a lot in regard to the constitution,” Sachs said.

She credited key contributors including legal advisor Wati and Mr. Peter Mazey for their guidance throughout the process.

Sachs expressed satisfaction with the outcome, especially after previous disagreements that saw fifteen association presidents walk out in March 2025.

“We are quite satisfied with the meeting held today. The new constitution addresses many concerns we had and reflects contributions from all associations,” she said.

A major highlight of the new constitution is the introduction of a zoning system, which Sachs believes will benefit all associations by fostering collaboration between larger groups and smaller ones.

“The zoning system links trustees, the board, executive committees, and associations to benefit everyone,” she explained. Looking ahead to the upcoming AGM, Sachs is optimistic the new constitution will be formally approved without resistance.

“This constitution is a great strategy to ensure all players across Fiji are well represented, helping the sport grow and succeed on the world stage,” she concluded.

The workshop marks an important step in strengthening governance and promoting the growth of netball throughout Fiji.
