EXPECT amendments to the National Referendum Bill, Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights chairperson Ratu Rakuita Vakalalabure has confirmed.
Ratu Rakuita made the assurance in response to consultant Alisi Daurewa, who questioned whether the Bill would ever come to fruition.
“What guarantee would I have that there would be a fruition to this process of the referendum that you are trying to get?” Ms Daurewa asked, citing delays under previous governments.
Ratu Rakuita acknowledged mixed public feedback and promised the committee would address grievances in the Bill.
“As members of Parliament we hold the mandate given to us by the people, so we must respect their wishes,” he said.
“I am not going to say what the changes are, but the Bill will sit in Parliament and you can see the amendments the committee has made. There will be fruition.”
