IMPROVING discipline will be a major focus as the team prepares for the Vancouver 7s, says Fiji Airways men’s 7s playmaker Terio Tamani.
Tamani was speaking after Fiji’s narrow 19-21 loss to South Africa in the men’s cup final of the Perth 7s at HBF Park on Sunday night, a match where missed opportunities and penalties proved costly.
“One area we need to improve in is our discipline,” Tamani said.
“In some games we were getting yellow cards and we need to improve on that.”
Despite the defeat, Fiji showed strong composure to stay in the contest until the final moments, but Tamani believes maintaining discipline will be crucial moving forward.
“Going to Vancouver we need to work and improve on those areas, the importance of maintaining discipline,” he said.
Fiji fell behind early in the final before mounting a late fightback, but South Africa managed to control the closing stages to seal the 21-19 victory.
The team will now turn its attention to the Vancouver 7s, where they have been drawn in Pool B alongside Argentina, France and Australia.
The Vancouver 7s will be held from March 7–8.
