HUNDREDS turned up for the Fiji Cancer 5 kilometre Walk to mark World Cancer Day last Saturday.
Two events were held simultaneously in Lautoka and Suva where survivors, caregivers, advocates and supporters tracked through the streets of the two main cities showing support for the global event.
In Suva, the Fiji Cancer Society reflected on the huge turn out.
“Today, the heart of Suva beat as one,” an FCS social media post said.
“We are absolutely blown away by the hundreds of supporters who laced up their sneakers and joined our 5km Walk to commemorate World Cancer Day.
“Seeing a sea of people united in the fight against cancer reminds us that no one fights alone. Together, we walked for the survivors, the fighters, and those we hold in our hearts.”
Meanwhile, in Lautoka supporters and survivors braved the rainy conditions for the walk that began at 6.30am.
Fiji Cancer Society’s western branch events and advocacy coordinator Litia Qoro said they were grateful to the immense support showed to the campaign and were equally grateful for the support from corporate bodies.
