MISLEADING recruitment agents continue to misinform workers coming to Fiji for employment, said Minister for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations Agni Deo Singh.

“A number of occasions where we have received this kind of complaint,” he said.

“We know that there are some unscrupulous agents out there who mislead workers who come over to work here in Fiji.”

He said some agents were falsely promising workers opportunities in Australia after Fiji.

“Some of them are, you know, giving information like, we will get you over to Australia after Fiji. Things like that.”

Mr Singh said misinformation was also causing confusion about Fiji itself.

“And sometimes they don’t know anything about Fiji, and they think Fiji is Australia.”

When asked if any company under the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme had stopped employing Fijians due to the high rate of domestic violence, he said, “I am not aware of that”.

Mr Singh confirmed that all companies contracted with the PALM scheme were still employing Fijians.

“Well, to the best of our knowledge, yes.”

According to the Australian Government, since November 2025, a total of 5165 Fijians have been part of the PALM scheme.
