CANCER remains a serious public health concern, says Health and Medical Services Assistant Minister Penioni Ravunawa.

Participating in the Fiji Cancer Society organised 5-kilometre walk in Suva yesterday, Mr Ravunawa reiterated the importance of awareness for an illness that has claimed countless Fijian lives.

“Today’s cancer awareness walk sends a clear message: cancer remains a serious public health concern, but early detection and healthier lifestyles can save lives,” Mr Ravunawa said.

“The Ministry of Health and Medical Services continues to urge all Fijians to go for regular screening, know the warning signs, and seek medical care early.” he said.

“Together, as a nation, we must stand united in the fight against cancer.”

Meanwhile, in Lautoka a similar event was organised by the FSC western branch with a 5km walk from Shirley Park.

Branch events and advocacy coordinator Litia Qoro acknowledged the support of the public and private organisations for the fight against cancer.

She said they were grateful for the support showed by families and supporters of the FCS western branch who braved cloudy conditions to participate in the 5km walk.

The event marked this year’s global theme, “United by Unique,” celebrating the strength found in the diverse cancer journeys of patients, survivors, caregivers, families and healthcare professionals.
