GREAT strides have been made by the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC), through their initiative to donate sporting equipment and Wheelie bins to selected schools in Suva.

In total, 18 schools have been identified as recipients of this generous donation, which began on Wednesday and will wrap up today.

The collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports has been instrumental in ensuring the success and impact of this program.

Yesterday, the Fiji Times team had the opportunity to visit Marist Brothers Primary School, one of the schools benefitting from FASANOC’s donations.

The Head of School, Michael Kumar, expressed deep appreciation for the support, emphasising the importance of holistic education and sports in the school’s development approach.

He adds the donations, which included sports equipment, library books, and Wheelie bins, were received with gratitude as they are expected to enhance the learning and resources available to the students.

“We are really appreciative of the donations from FASANOC, you know Marist is a school that provides Holistic education and sports is part of our development for the children,” said Kumar.

“We are very thankful to receive some sports equipment’s together with library books to help improve the reading of the children, and the donation of the Wheelie Bins.”

Kumar mentioned the history and strong connections with former students, many of whom revisit the school, underscore the impact of these donations in enriching the school community and supporting the educational journey of the students.

“We are really thankful for what they have done, the initiative is good, Marist has a history of many old boys that went through, so a lot of them come back to visit because a lot of good memories that they have of the school, and a lot of time the donations that they bring actually help improve our resources, and the learning of the children in school.”

They visited six selected schools yesterday to conclude their program.
