A flash flood alert is now in force for the whole of Fiji, with residents urged to remain vigilant as unsettled weather conditions continue to affect the country.
According to information from the Fiji Flash Flood Guidance System, a slow-moving trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain is currently lying over the Fiji Group.
The system is gradually moving southwards and is expected to pass through and clear the group later on Saturday.
The main hazard is flash flooding caused by isolated heavy rain.
Authorities warn that impacts may include flooding of drainage systems, small streams, low-water bridges, Irish crossings, roads, and properties in low-lying areas.
The alert is based on data from rainfall forecast models and weather radar observations.
Members of the public are advised to take precautions, avoid flooded areas, and heed advice from relevant authorities as conditions may change rapidly.
