Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu has likened Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to a “modern-day Joe Biden”, accusing him of struggling to keep pace with events and presiding over a government marked by confusion and contradiction.

In a statement, Mr Seruiratu said the Prime Minister appeared increasingly unable to provide clear and consistent leadership, often offering conflicting recollections and repeatedly stating he was “not aware”.

“This has become the pattern of a government that jumps from one crisis to another without proper accountability and governance,” he said.

Mr Seruiratu said ministers were contradicting one another publicly, while responsibility was being avoided rather than owned.

“This is not stable governance — it is chaos playing out in real time,” he said.

He said the Prime Minister’s admission that he acted outside the proper constitutional process in advising the President to remove the former FICAC Commissioner warranted serious scrutiny.

By stating he acted alone, Mr Seruiratu said the Prime Minister had accepted sole responsibility for a decision the High Court later ruled unlawful.

“In doing so, he has exposed himself to serious questions of accountability,” he said.
