A heavy rain alert is now in force for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, as well as the Lomaiviti, Central and Northern Lau groups.
Weather officials say a slow-moving trough of low pressure, bringing cloud and showers, remains over the southern and eastern parts of the country.
A second trough, located just northeast of Fiji, is gradually moving southwards and is expected to affect the group from later today through to Saturday.
For Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, as well as the Lomaiviti and Lau groups, occasional showers with a few thunderstorms and isolated heavy falls are forecast.
Cloudy periods with some showers and isolated thunderstorms, including heavy falls, are also expected over Sigatoka-Korolevu, Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nasinu, the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, and parts of Northern Bua and Macuata. Elsewhere, conditions are expected to be mainly fine, with afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms.
Forecasters warn that showers are expected to become more frequent and increase to rain over Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, as well as the Lau and Lomaiviti groups from later today.
Residents in affected areas are advised to remain vigilant, monitor weather updates closely, and take necessary precautions, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
