The opportunity to engage with the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua in their second pre-season trial match will serve as an avenue through which players in the Skipper Select XV could attract new interest in them.

These are the sentiments of Fijian Drua co-captain and lock Temo Mayanavanua.

He understood the aim of certain players in the Skipper Select team who might be interested in joining the Drua and how this platform provided the ideal path to it.

“I know that there will be boys in the Skipper Select who are really talented and really hungry to be in this set-up,” Mayanavanua told Times Sport in New Zealand last Friday.

“Who knows? God might bless them with an opportunity.”

“It’s a good way to advertise local talents and a good way to show that the Skipper Cup has a purpose.”

He also reflected on how the Skipper Cup was a road through which he and other players in the Fijian Drua such as co-captain Frank Lomani came through before moving towards higher levels of professional rugby in Fiji and abroad.

“For myself, Frank (Lomani) and a few of the boys here, we came through that system as well,” he shared.

“We know how it feels to be on the outside and looking in.”

He added the Fijian Drua was also preparing eagerly to meet the Skipper Select side this Friday.

“The boys are also really geared up and are really hyped for their match.”

Mayanavanua has also extended an invitation to all fans to come out in numbers to Churchill Park to cheer on their teams.

“It’s going to be an exciting game full of Fijian flair, big hits and it’s going to be an epic one.”

The match kicks off at 4pm.
