THE Western Division police are stepping up efforts to combat crime by actively involving communities in policing initiatives.
The Divisional Crime Prevention Committee convened a meeting on Friday to discuss strategies that engage local volunteers in creating safer neighbourhoods.
Divisional Police Commander Western (DPC/W), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Iakobo Vaisewa praised the committee’s dedication and the diverse expertise of its members.
“It’s inspiring to see volunteers from all walks of life — retired civil servants, religious leaders, and community advocates — bringing their passion and commitment to this cause,” SSP Vaisewa said.
The committee’s first major task is updating community data, a cornerstone for the Western Division’s community policing unit.
“Accurate data allows us to pinpoint areas that need urgent attention, plan targeted awareness campaigns, and respond effectively to criminal activities.”
By integrating community insight with law enforcement strategies, the Western Division police aim to create a proactive, united approach to tackling crime and safeguarding residents across the region.
