FIJI Airways Fijiana debutant Alfreda Fisher says she is embracing the learning process after making her first appearance in the shortened version of the game.

The Fijiana XVs captain recently transitioned from 15s rugby to the 7s format and made her debut at the Singapore 7s over the weekend.

Fisher came off the bench in Fiji’s opening pool match against Australia, gaining valuable experience against top-level opposition.

She later made a strong impact in Fijiana’s final pool match against Japan, scoring the opening try in a convincing 34–12 victory.

Reflecting on her debut, Fisher admitted the switch from 15s to 7s has been challenging but rewarding.

She said the faster pace, increased intensity, and different style of play have required significant adjustment.

“It has been a day of learning. There are many changes from how we play in 15s to 7s, and I’m still learning,” Fisher said.

She also praised her teammates for their support, noting that the transition has been made easier by the guidance and encouragement she has received from the squad.

“The girls have been very helpful, guiding me through the processes. I’m thankful to everyone and feel blessed to have the opportunity to represent my country in another code of the game,” she added.

Meanwhile, the Fijiana team will be aiming for an improved performance at the upcoming Perth tournament in Australia after failing to qualify for the Cup competition in Singapore.

Their second pool match against the USA proved decisive, with Fiji narrowly losing 17-22 in extra time.
