THE Fiji Airways Fijiana side went down 7-35 against Australia in their opening match at the Singapore 7s yesterday.
Reapi Ulunisau scored the lone try for Fiji in the first spell as they trailed 7-21 at the break.
Coach Richard Walker said errors let them down in the game.
” We made a couple of mistakes and that cost us. We can’t afford mistakes like that against a fast team like Australia,” Walker said.
He added the remaining two matches were going to be crucial for his side.
“Very tough teams. I saw Japan take a 17-nil lead against USA. USA came back and scored 24 unanswered points to take the game.
“We have to win our remaining two matches so we have a chance to make the semi-finals and we will go match by match from here.”
Fijiana played USA and Japan in their other pool matches last night.
Meanwhile, it was a match to remember for Fijiana XV captain Alfreda Fisher who made her debut in the 7s code against Australia.
Fisher went on for the final few minutes in the match.
