THE Fiji Aquatics Grand Prix Long Course concluded yesterday at the Suva Aquatic Centre, featuring 126 talented swimmers from five major clubs across Fiji.

These clubs — Dolphins, Oka, Tritons, Barracudas, and Great White Sharks — bring together athletes from across the country to compete at a high level.

This event is the first of three Grand Prix competitions this season and plays a crucial role in the journey towards the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Errol Taylor, Vice President of Fiji Aquatics, emphasised the significance of the event, saying, “The road to the Commonwealth starts here.”

With the Commonwealth Games approaching, Taylor confirmed that a national team is already training for the qualifiers.

The team comprises top local swimmers from the 2025 season, alongside a few athletes currently based overseas who are studying under sports contracts.

Following the conclusion of the three Grand Prix competitions this season, Fiji Aquatics will host its Open Nationals, serving as the final trials for the Oceania Championships, which are the qualifiers for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Fiji last hosted the competition in 2016; the 2023 event was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

With strong support from these clubs and a clear pathway for growth, Fiji’s swimming community is eager to watch these athletes compete and represent the country in future international events.

The Grand Prix marks just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting season for Fiji Aquatics.
