GOVERNMENT has commissioned the Marou Village Footcrossing in the interior of Nadarivatu to improve access and connectivity for rural communities.
The $48,000 project was funded under the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management’s Community Access Roads, Footpaths and Footbridges (CARFF) Program and will provide safer access for more than 95 villagers, particularly during heavy rain and flooding.
Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management Mosese Bulitavu said the project reflected Government’s commitment to rural development.
“This footcrossing is a practical investment that responds directly to the everyday challenges faced by rural families in this village,” Mr Bulitavu said.
“For communities like Marou, safe access is not a luxury, it is essential for education, health, livelihoods, and overall wellbeing.”
The footcrossing would be benefiting 98 villagers from 15 households, including women, children, the elderly and persons living with disabilities, while improving access to schools, health services and farming activities.
Mr Bulitavu said infrastructure projects under the CARFF program strengthened community resilience and disaster preparedness.
“These investments belong to the community.
“Through shared responsibility and proper care, this footcrossing will continue to serve Marou for many years to come.”
