A severe thunderstorm warning for heavy rainfall is now in force for Macuata, northern Bua, and the interior and northeastern parts of Viti Levu, from Ba through Rakiraki to Korovou.
Weather officials say a moist southeasterly wind flow is prevailing over the country, creating unstable conditions.
This is expected to trigger afternoon and evening thunderstorms, accompanied by periods of heavy rainfall over the affected areas.
The warning states that severe thunderstorms may produce intense rainfall over short periods, increasing the risk of flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas in the next few hours.
Residents in the warned areas are being urged to take precautions, including staying clear of flooded creeks and drains, avoiding walking, cycling or driving through floodwaters, and unplugging electrical appliances.
People are also advised to remain indoors, keep children inside, stay away from windows, and continue to monitor weather conditions closely.
Thunderstorm activity, including heavy rain and intense lightning, is expected to persist until late afternoon or evening.
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and follow safety advice as conditions continue to develop.
