Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s head coach Richard Walker is keen to unleash the team’s two new players, Adi Salote Nailolo and Alfreda Fisher, at the HSBC Singapore 7s leg.
Both players fought off fierce competition to secure their places in the team after dominating local 7s tournaments.
Despite coming from a 15s background, they have transitioned seamlessly to the abbreviated format, highlighting their talent and tenacity.
“They both got to play at the Coral Coast 7s. Nailolo was really good in Coral Coast in ball carrying and her ability to stay in the game. Fisher was really, really good around the ruck area, her one-on-ones via tackles or whether in attack—she just shows the class player that she is,” Walker said.
As the youngest ever captain for the Fijiana XV teams, Fisher brings a wealth of leadership experience to the side.
While she is still finding her feet in her newest rugby environment, the team has warmly embraced both players, with captain Verenaisi Ditavitu urging them to seize the opportunity and uphold the team spirit.
“Like I always say to all the girls in my team, be the best versions of yourself and be good role models for your teammates,” she said.
Fijiana begin their tournament against Australia at 3.26pm on Saturday, before facing the USA at 6.30pm.
They will conclude their pool games against Japan at 9.56pm.
