IN line with efforts to maintain an overall sense of cleanliness during the Fiji Bitter Savusavu 7s next week, a recycling program has been implemented to help with its execution.
The tournament has introduced what it claims is a comprehensive recycling program, featuring collection points where community members can return plastic bottles for a refund.
The move will be co-ordinated in partnership with the Savusavu Town Council, as both parties seek to maintain the overall cleanliness of the Hidden Paradise at a time when large numbers of people are expected to converge there for the third leg of the 2025/26 Fiji Bitter 7s Series.
Ganilau Park and its surrounding areas are expected to be filled with a high volume of movement of fans, supporters, teams and officials, and the partnership will attract those interested to aid in the cleanliness of these places.
Meanwhile, tournament organisers have expressed the event’s diligence towards showcasing regional talent, fostering community pride and staging a rugby tournament that is delivered in a professional manner, and simultaneously reflects the outstanding qualities of Savusavu. And with this, the head of marketing – alcohol at Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, Etrina Simpson, reflected on the core quality present in the tournament.
“There is a real heartbeat to Savusavu in this tournament. You see it in the crowds, in the players, and in the way the whole town gets behind this event,” Simpson expressed.
“With thousands attending each year, it is clear the Savusavu 7s means a great deal to people here.”
“Fiji Bitter is honoured to support something that brings so much pride and positivity to the community.”
The tournament kicks off on Thursday, February 5, finishing on Saturday, February 7.
Third stop to light up Savusavu
VANUA LEVU’S bravest rugby 7s teams are set to grace the field once more when the Fiji Bitter Savusavu 7s kicks off early next month.
Set in Ganilau Park, the competition is set to heat up as the series arrives at its third leg since it began on the island of Ovalau last November.
Tournament organiser Pita Ralaca acknowledged the long-standing passion of the community in rallying behind the tournament in its growth over the years.
“The Fiji Bitter Savusavu 7s has always been shaped by the passion of our community and our local players,” Ralaca said.
“Fiji Bitter’s ongoing partnership remains key to delivering a quality event on Vanua Levu for players, officials and supporters alike.”
This year, the Savusavu 7s will cater for 32 men’s teams, eight women’s teams, and 16 under-21 teams in what Ralaca says is a reflection of the competition’s commitment towards expanding pathways for aspiring
athletes across all divisions.
The tournament’s structure of pool matches will be retained as teams will battle it out for placement in the saucer, plate, bowl and shield competitions.
All matches will be administered under the tournament by-laws which are in alignment with the Fiji Rugby Union’s and international rugby standards.
With the spirit of the tournament expected to be a dynamic one, the head of marketing -alcohol at the Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, Etrina Simpson, relayed how the spirit of the Hidden Paradise becomes more prominent during the tournament.
“There is a real heartbeat to Savusavu during this tournament. You see it in the crowds, in the players, and in the way the whole town gets behind the event,” Simpson said.
The Savusavu 7s will be held from Thursday, February 5 to Saturday, February 7.
