A PROUD moment for Abaramo Ratucove, a middle-distance runner, as he departed for the United States yesterday on a two-year academic and athletic scholarship with Neosho Community College.

A standout athlete, Ratucove has earned praise from the Marist Brothers’ High School and its Athletics Club for his dedication, consistency, and unwavering work ethic.

He has excelled at both school and national competitions, establishing himself as a top performer in the realm of middle-distance running.

Renowned for his strategic racing approach, powerful finishing kick, and ability to rise to the occasion, Ratucove has a remarkable track record.

His achievements include three gold medals at the Coca-Cola Games in the 800m category, with wins in the Intermediate Boys 800m in 2023 and the Senior Boys 800m in 2024, where he set a personal best time of 2:00.80.

Additionally, he has showcased his talent in the 1500m, solidifying his position as a rising star in Fiji’s athletic scene.

Ratucove’s skills have garnered attention on a national level, leading to his selection for Team Fiji at the 2024 Oceania Championships.

His impressive rankings in the men’s 800m and 1500m events in Fiji attest to his exceptional abilities, and he was even considered for the 2025 Mini Pacific Games.

As Ratucove embarks on this new chapter of his journey in the United States, he carries the pride and support of the Marist Brothers’ High School and the wider Fiji athletics community.
