A man alleged to have broken into the Vuniniudrovu Ram Krishna Hanuman Temple in Sawani was reportedly present among devotees at the temple last night, shortly after a break-in was discovered.

The Fiji Times understands the man, of Indo-Fijian descent, even went as far as describing a vehicle he claimed to have seen near the temple, in what appeared to be an attempt to divert suspicion away from himself.

This morning, police intensified efforts to arrest the suspect believed to be responsible for the break-in.

Police K9 dogs led officers to a house near the temple after a second break-in was discovered earlier today.

Sources told The Fiji Times that the suspect was the same individual who had been present at the temple the previous day.

However, the man fled the premises before police arrived.

Investigations are continuing as police work to locate and arrest the suspect.
