Lawyer Saimoni Nacolawa says a great burden had been lifted from his shoulders after the High Court in Lautoka dismissed sedition and political violence charges against him and 25 others on Thursday.
Justice Samuela Qica ruled that the group had no case to answer regarding allegations of plotting to overthrow the Government in 2015, citing a failure by the prosecution to present credible evidence.
Mr Nacolawa, of Nacolawa and Company, described the decade-long proceedings as the worst experience of his professional life.
He explained that his involvement in the case stemmed from a client listing his name on a laptop.
Mr Nacolawa said he was deeply grateful to his legal team for their persistence when he had lost hope in the case.
“My family went through a very difficult experience but they were very happy with the final judgment.”
“I’m just going to enjoy what I have and a probably by the end of the year I should be retiring.
“I plan to enjoy more time with my family,” he added.
