Students in the Highlands of Navosa will have easier access to secondary education following the reopening of the Nadroga Navosa Provincial High School.
The Education Ministry reopened the institution last week, signifying a milestone for families in the district, restoring access to secondary education closer to home after years of disruption.
“The school will initially open with Year 9, easing long-standing challenges related to distance, transport costs, and limited secondary school placements,” a statement from the ministry said.
“The school will serve as a key secondary pathway for students from surrounding primary schools, including Naidovi Primary School, Naidiri Khalsa Primary School, Nadroga Sangam Primary School, Cuvu District School, and Nadromai District School.”
It said the milestone occasion also reconnects the school to its rich history.
“Originally established as Tavuki Mission School under the Methodist Church of Fiji, the institution later became Nadroga Navosa Provincial High School, serving students from Navosa and surrounding islands before transitioning to technical education.”
While commissioning the school, Education Minister Aseri Radrodro reaffirmed Government’s commitment to equity, access, and continuity in education.
Mr Radrodro highlighted support initiatives such as the $200 Back-to-School Assistance and the eTransport benefit, which continues to ease financial pressure on families. He assured students and parents that the school’s vocational program would continue alongside mainstream education.
This he said ensured students have access to both academic and technical pathways that align with national workforce needs.
